I'm Venice Buhain, in for Paris Jackson.
As people grieve the loss of country music legend and humanitarian Dolly Parton, her legacy continues to touch lives in Washington.
Parton's Imagination Library of Washington and Page Ahead Literacy Program recently announced a new partnership that restores the distribution of books to thousands of King County children.
Paris Jackson shares how the youngest residents in our community will benefit.
Look at all these cool books.
Inside Page Ahead Children's Literacy office in Seattle, books are being stocked by volunteers.
Even Executive Director Susan Dibble is getting a look at what's new.
Oh, yeah, this is great!
The partnership between Page Ahead and the late Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Washington will restore service of free books to children five and under who live in King County, thanks to new private and public funding.
What I loved about Dolly's program from the beginning is just that it's so inclusive.
It's really child-centered.
It's focused on getting books into the hands of kids.
The book comes to the child's house with their name on it, not their parents name.
It's their name, which if you remember being a little kid, getting mail at your house is pretty exciting anyway.
Each month, a book tailored to a child's age and development is sent.
Already, thousands are receiving their books, including kids previously enrolled in the program.
Well, right now, it's at about 16,000 children in King County, and that number is growing rapidly.
Dibble says registration is still open.
